  • Abstract
With the advancement of competency-based medical education, there is a call for assessment to shift from assessment of learning to assessment for and as learning. While assessment of learning focuses on educational outcomes such as acquisition of knowledge, assessment for and as learning emphasizes using assessment as a tool to promote learning and as part of the learning process. With that background, this workshop will first introduce the conceptual framework, key principles and characteristics for designing those three types of assessment in health professions education. Following that, this workshop will focus on discussing how technologies could be adopted to support different assessment methods with the purpose of promoting student learning and helping students become more metacognitive in their own learning process. A few digital technologies will be introduced such as Kahoot!, EdPuzzle, and Nearpod, and participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and design their own mini assessment using these technologies in the workshop.

This seminar will be the second of a series of advanced professional developments focusing on improving teaching skills provided for HKUMed staff. The tentative topic for the final session will be Effective Feedback.
