Feedback is an essential and integral part of the educational process for students in health professions education. When given properly, feedback is helpful for students to gauge their understanding of learning and making action plans for improvement, and to ultimately achieve specific milestones in the competency-based curriculum. This workshop will focus on discussing characteristics of effective and ineffective feedback, barriers to the feedback process, strategies for providing effective feedback and developing learning environment to promote the facilitation of feedback, and engaging participants in critiquing different feedback providing examples in health professions education. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice providing feedback to peers at the end of the workshop.
This seminar will be the final of a series of advanced professional developments focusing on improving teaching skills provided for HKUMed staff.
