Despite the introduction of interprofessional education years back, its science and scholarship have been slow to develop. HKU's Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) recognized this knowledge gap and assumed the lead in promoting IPE in Hong Kong and internationally. IPECP is the largest collaboration training for healthcare professional students in Asia and beyond.  Established eight years ago, it caters to an annual average of 1,644 healthcare students from 12 programmes across ten faculties, and seven HEIs (The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Education University of Hong Kong, Tung Wah College, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, University College London, Queen Mary University of London). Through simulation (e.g., stroke rehabilitation), IPECP trains health professional students to develop skills in leadership and teamwork, communication, conflict management, problem-solving, and reflective practice as a means of achieving the four aims for healthcare: improved clinical experience, better outcomes, improved patient/carer experience, and lower costs.

In this presentation, Dr Ganotice will highlight the IPECP initiatives that are informed by a range of scientific disciplines to untangle the fundamental educational, motivational, and psychological principles that underpin the success of IPE. He will share IPECP’s contribution to the advancement of the science of IPE in medical education.
