The unprecedented COVID-19 global pandemic has accelerated the transition of teaching and learning from face-to-face to online mode, and online education will likely be the future trend even in the post-pandemic era. This seminar will first introduce the pedagogical framework – Community of Inquiry – for online teaching, followed by discussing some specific instructional strategies and activities for promoting cognitive, social, and teaching presence in online environments, as well as how technological tools could be used to facilitate the design of these activities. Finally, this seminar will also serve as a platform for an open discussion of the common challenges instructors face in online teaching and how to address those challenges.
