Mr. Brant Knutzen Part-time Lecturer I am a teaching research pioneer in the field of eLearning. I do classroom-based research and design and develop new teaching tools and methodologies. My current research focus is on leveraging technology to develop engaging and sustainable formative learning activities. My team recently wrapped up a pilot project trialing two new Moodle plugins I have developed which enhance online discussions: a new type of forum which automates participation ratings, and a learning analytic which provides quantitative and qualitative feedback on student interactions. This project was deemed highly successful, and these plugins are now available for teaching use on the production Moodle server for the University of Hong Kong campus. My other primary research area is exploring the application of the virtual environment for developing training simulations. I am currently developing a new full region in Second Life for the HKU Faculty of Medicine, with simulations designed to supplement student training in Biochemistry and Pathology. Another application is disaster scenario simulation, working with the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and based on the Unity3D platform. See Brant.Knutzen.se for more information. |
