Dr Sheung YAN, Selena

Assistant Lecturer, BIMHSE

Dr. Selena Yan is an Assistant Lecturer / Senior E-learning Instructor at the School of Clinical Medicine and the Bau Institute of Medical and Health Sciences Education, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong. She is a core member of the Education Technology and Student in Medical Health and Sciences Education (EdTech and SIMHSE) working group, helping to drive EdTech and curriculum innovation across HKUMed.

Dr. Yan holds a PhD in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology from HKU and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), UK. Prior to her current role, Dr. Yan taught immunology and conducted postdoctoral research on autoimmunity, innate immune defences, and lung cancer immunotherapy, with publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.

As an educator, Dr. Yan prioritises active, learner-centred approach that builds on students’ prior knowledge and curiosity. Her combined experience in research and education enables her to make complex scientific concepts clear, accessible and engaging for biomedical and health sciences students.

As a Senior E-learning Instructor, Dr. Yan is deeply involved in advancing digital literacy. She designs and implements multimedia resources and innovative digital learning solutions for E-learning platforms at HKUMed. Dr. Yan is also actively promoting digital literacy, particularly the responsible use of generative AI tools in healthcare education. Her pioneering work in this area helps laying the groundwork for a Faculty-wide, credit-bearing course on Digital Literacy at HKUMed.
