Advanced Professional Development Programme in Health Professions Education (Seminar 2)
Clinical reasoning develops gradually across the MBBS curriculum, yet misalignment in the pre-clinical years can unintentionally hinder this process. Non-clinical teachers may not always be aware of the ways of thinking that medical students are expected to develop over time, while clinical teachers may rely heavily on clinical case discussions that overwhelm early learners who have not yet formed a framework for clinical reasoning. Building on recent conceptual discussions of clinical reasoning, this APDP seminar focuses on translating these ideas into practical, day to day teaching practices. The session aims to foster shared awareness and alignment across clinical and non-clinical teachers, emphasising small, realistic changes that can support the gradual development of clinical reasoning across the curriculum.
