  • Abstract

The School of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong and The Bau Institute of Medical and Health Sciences Education (BIMHSE) will co-host a Seminar featuring Professor Helen Skouteris, Monash Warwick Alliance Professor in Health and Social Care Improvement and Implementation Science and Head of the Health and Social Care Unit (HSCU) at Monash University, Australia, on the topic “Broadening the Lens of Implementation Science: Equity, Inclusion and Moving Beyond Western Approaches”.

This presentation will introduce the principles of implementation science and explore why an equity-focused approach is critical to improving health, social care, and educational outcomes. Moving beyond traditional Western models, equity-focused implementation emphasises participation, co-design, contextual responsiveness, and the inclusion of diverse ways of knowing to ensure that interventions are accessible, acceptable, and beneficial for populations experiencing social, cultural, economic, and structural disadvantage.

The presentation will provide an overview of the Strengthening Implementation Practice and Research with Equity (SEMPRE) programme, highlighting its work to advance equitable implementation across diverse settings. Through examples from SEMPRE projects, Professor Helen Skouteris will demonstrate how community partnerships, lived experience expertise, and equity-centred implementation strategies can support more effective, sustainable, and impactful outcomes across complex health, social care, and education systems.
