This informal gathering is designed to foster connections and spark discussions on the transformative power of partnerships. The session will unfold in three sections:

  • Story Behind the Medal:

Discover the behind-the-scenes journey of our medalists and the challenges they overcame to achieve recognition;

  • Medalist in Action:

Experience a taste of their dynamic classroom activities, showcasing innovative teaching methods that engage and inspire students; and

  • People Behind the Medal:

Learn about the collaborative efforts that contributed to their success, highlighting the vital role of peers and the impact of students.

 This initiative by the Bau Institute of Medical and Health Sciences Education (BIMHSE) aligns closely with our mission to promote excellence, professionalism, innovation, and collaboration in medical and health sciences education. Dr Mei Li Khong,

Recipient of Early Career Teaching Award 2022, Teaching Innovation Award 2023 (Leader), Faculty Teaching Medal 2024, U21 Teaching Excellence Award 2025

Day-to-day, she inspires students to connect emotionally to learning. Central to her work are partnerships with students that span disciplines and geographical boundaries. She is particularly passionate about fostering student-educator partnerships to co-design curriculum and pedagogy. By harnessing the transformative potential of these partnerships, she seeks to disrupt conventional teaching approaches and shift learning perspectives. Her team’s initiative on formalising student-educator partnerships in curriculum co-creation and cross-disciplinary learning received Global Awards in QS Reimagine Education Awards 2023 & 2024.

Dr Joni Zhang,

Recipient of Early Career Teaching Award 2023

Dr Zhang is a Kinesiology educator at HKU known for her “practice what you preach” approach to teaching. She creates experiential learning environments where students monitor their own health behaviours, reflect on their lifestyle patterns, and learn how physical activity and exercise influence human wellbeing. Through hands‑on labs and real‑world field trips, she equips future healthcare professionals to improve their own health so they can better advocate for their patients. Her students consistently praise her enthusiasm, clarity and ability to translate complex ideas into meaningful daily practice.
