On behalf of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Frontiers in Medical and Health Sciences Education 2018. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Learning in Alliance: Inter-professional Health Education and Practice”. The Frontiers conference has been an annual flagship event of the Faculty since 2007, aiming to provide a platform for practitioners to share experience and knowledge in medical and health education.
Effective collaboration between health professionals from different disciplines in multidisciplinary teams positively affects patients’ healthcare outcomes. However, preparing students for such collaborative practice can be challenging. An array of topics in inter-professional education (IPE) will thus be explored in this symposium. The main themes include the use of innovative pedagogies and technology, development of faculty and leadership, examples of successful collaborative practice, and many more. The symposium will draw on the expertise and experience of international and local speakers on the best way to implement IPE, and to illuminate the possibilities and pitfalls in implementing inter-professional education.
This 2-day symposium will provide thought-provoking plenary sessions, forums, experience-sharing sessions, interactive workshops and free paper presentations. We hope you can join us in this exciting opportunity to push medical and health sciences education to a new frontier in which professionals from different disciplines can work together for the ultimate benefit of our patients.
