Undergraduate Near Peer Teaching Research (UgNPTR) Conference Support

Applications are now invited for the Undergraduate Near‑Peer Teaching Research (UgNPTR) Conference Support (hereafter “the Conference Support”). This Conference Support funds students who travel and attend an academic conference, in which they deliver presentation on research related to the delivery of near-peer teaching. Details of the Conference Support and application procedures are outlined below:

1.    Eligibility

 Full-time undergraduate students (including MBBS Graduate Entry Track) at HKU.
 
2.    Criteria and conditions

Candidates must be delivering oral paper or poster presentation on research and scholarly work related to the delivery of near-peer teaching by undergraduate students which they have (co-)authored at a regional or international academic conference held from March 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026. Candidates must be the only person applying for this conference support in respect of this presentation. The conferences must bear local or international recognition and have to be publicly announced.  Each eligible student may only receive the Award ONCE throughout his/her entire undergraduate career at HKUMed.
 
3.   Funding

Each award is valued at up to HK$13,500.The funding support is restricted to a single application by an individual applicant for the relevant programme. The successful applicants will be reimbursed for the actual expenses incurred in attending the programme, or the maximum approved amount, whichever is lesser. The funds will be released upon completion of all the required post-activity tasks. Eligible expenses include registration fees, transportation, and accommodation. 

4.   Review Panel

Applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the investigators of the project “Establishing professional development and support mechanisms to enhance adoption and sustainability of near-peer teaching in undergraduate degree programmes” (hereafter “the Committee”), which is funded by the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (2025-2028 triennium) administered by University Grant Committee (UGC).

5.   Submission of Application

Applications must be submitted to BIMHSE via imhse@hku.hk at least 21 working days before the first day of the conference. The application must include the following documents:
 
List of Required Documents for Application
– Completed application form with endorsement by one HKU teaching staff who has supervised or is familiar with the applicant’s work
– Documentary evidence (e.g. email correspondence) issued by the conference organiser(s) confirming that at least one oral paper or poster (with the title clearly stated) which the applicant has (co-)authored has been accepted for presentation at the conference.
– Quotation/invoice/receipt/website screenshot of airfare
– Quotation/invoice/receipt/website screenshot of conference registration fee
– Quotation/invoice/receipt/website screenshot of accommodation expense 
 
Post-Activity Requirements
– Expense claims, accompanied by original receipts (and used air ticket(s) if reimbursement of airfare is requested), must be submitted directly to BIMHSE within 30 days of the end of the conference. Expenses claimed after this period will not be allowed.
– Successful applicants are required to submit a report within 30 days of the end of the conference, and to give a presentation to the HKUMed community as arranged by BIMHSE.
– Funding recipients must provide photos of the conference attended (e.g. selfie). The Faculty or University reserves the right to publish these photos on social media accounts for advertising purposes.
