Dr Julie Chen graduated from Dalhousie University, Canada and completed her postgraduate training at the University of Toronto before becoming a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. She currently holds a joint appointment in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care at the University of Hong Kong and the Institute of Medical and Health Sciences Education. In addition to teaching, she has played a leading role in the development, implementation and evaluation of new initiatives in the medical curriculum. These include: an expanded family medicine curriculum, the “Professionalism in Practice” programme to encourage early learning of professionalism and a compulsory medical humanities programme which extends through all years of medical school. Recently she has been looking at the wellbeing of students in the healthcare professions programmes and how it relates to academic performance and motivation to learn. In recognition of her work in medical education, she was the recipient of a Faculty Teaching Medal in 2012 and the University Teaching Award (Team) in 2013.
