On behalf of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Frontiers in Medical and Health Sciences Education 2020. The theme of this year’s conference is “Medical Education Disrupted; Negativity or Creativity”.
Many facets of our world including education and health care are facing the impact of disruptive innovations, practices and global events. While this can be met with negative sentiments towards the need for constant change and adaptation, it also presents unprecedented opportunities for educators to be daring and creative in future readying our graduates to thrive in this rapidly changing world. We have assembled a diverse range of world class speakers who will delve into issues such as what is disruption, what disruptive practices are happening now in health care and health sciences education, what if certain disruptive influences can be incorporated into existing frameworks and what is next on the horizon? Experts will also raise ideas of how to manage students and colleagues in this challenging environment.
In addition to eye opening plenary sessions and provocative panel discussions, this 2-day conference will aim to introduce elements to the conference that are more disruptive in nature. We will use interactive applications and social media to maximise delegate participation and engagement, online learning management systems for peri-conference idea exchanges, while providing ample opportunities for delegates to connect and network in a welcoming environment. We therefore warmly extend our invitation to you to join us in Hong Kong for this memorable and enriching experience.

BIMHSE now provides a collaborative platform to foster excellence in medical and health sciences education within the Faculty and beyond, thereby advancing its position in the region and in the international arena.
