Welcome Message

On behalf of the Asian Medical Education Association (AMEA) and the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Ninth AMEA Symposium cum Frontiers in Medical and Health Sciences Education 2017. The Symposium is a flagship event to celebrate both the 20th anniversary of AMEA, and also the 130th anniversary of the HKU Medical Faculty who was the Founder of AMEA. It is the grand finale of the yearlong celebrations of “130 Years of Medicine in Hong Kong”.   The theme of this year’s symposium is “Preparing Healthcare Learners in a Changing World”.

The landscape of medicine and healthcare is continuing changing, accelerated by the rapid advances in medical and healthcare knowledge and technology. It is of paramount importance to address such new challenges to better equip medical and healthcare professionals in this fast changing environment. An array of topics will be explored and deliberated in the symposium. The main themes include innovation in pedagogy, innovation in technology, internationalization/curriculum development and interprofessional education/team-based learning. In addition, other sub-themes such as admissions, assessment, continued professional development, faculty development, medical volunteerism, work life balance …and many more, will be discussed. The symposium will draw on the expertise and experience of speakers from multi-disciplines to explore these interesting questions and to illuminate the possibilities and pitfalls of the way forward.

This 3-day symposium will provide thought provoking and exciting plenary sessions, student forums, panel discussions, interactive workshops and free paper presentations. We do hope you can join us in pushing medical and health sciences education to new frontiers.
